From little things, big things are created: components for mining
From little things, big things are created: components for mining
All of our mining equipment includes a number of components that have been designed and manufactured by Liebherr: from huge components like combustion engines, slewing bearings and hydraulic cylinders, to smaller

ones like travel, slewing and wheel drives; hydraulic pumps and motors of different types; suspensions and fuel injection solutions for combustion engines.
‘Using Liebherr components in Liebherr equipment has a range of advantages, the biggest of which is quality. Every Liebherr component is designed and manufactured to meet the unique challenges of the environments they’ll be used in,’ says Roman Maurer, design engineer, drive component development, Liebherr-Components Biberach GmbH. ‘To survive on a mine site, our components need to be reliable and rugged enough to withstand the extreme conditions seen in the pit, while also meeting our strict quality standards.’
As Liebherr is responsible for the components and the machines that house them, customers need only make one call should their Liebherr equipment require attention. Getting everything from a single source, like machine servicing, spare parts and components, saves time and money – two of the most precious resources on a mine site. Plus, servicing is also much more straightforward for Liebherr technicians when we use our components for our machines. Take the powertrain of a Liebherr mining excavator, for example. The powertrain contains numerous Liebherr components: a combustion engine with an internally developed fuel injection system, gearboxes (including travel and slewing drives), hydraulic motors, hydraulic cylinders and a splitter box with hydraulic pumps – depending on whether it’s a diesel-hydraulic or an electric-hydraulic powertrain. Liebherr’s in-depth technical expertise for upstream and downstream technologies and processes helps technicians to better understand what’s happening within the powertrain, therefore reducing servicing time to get the excavator up and running again much sooner.
Making components work for mining
Conditions on mine sites are unique in their intensity. Mines are often in remote locations in regions that experience extreme temperatures and, sometimes, are even located at extreme altitudes. Day-to-day mining activities involve a lot of dust and dirt, not to mention the vibrations of the mining equipment itself. Any component used in such conditions must be tough enough to withstand them, while also offering the efficiency and reliability customers need to achieve their production targets – which is no small feat. Liebherr components are designed to be robust enough to meet all of these challenges, and also to be sustainable in nature. The majority of Liebherr components can be remanufactured, which increases the service life of these components, while also minimising resources used, reducing waste and saving both energy and costs. This contributes to customers’ satisfaction with our components and also demonstrates Liebherr’s commitment to building exceptional products across all of the product segments.
But before our components even catch a glimpse of a Liebherr mining machine, they go through an intensive validation process.
‘Our validation process is both theoretical and practical. The theoretical phase uses dynamic simulations and the finite element method to assess a component’s ability to work within the conditions of a mine site. Once the component passes this phase, the product moves on to practical validation, where it is subjected to tests designed to find weaknesses, so these can be addressed before field testing,’ explains Maurer.
Field testing is where we really see what our components can do. The process for testing our components differs depending on the component being assessed, but there are some similarities between the processes. Components are tested in the field for a specific period of time – for example, Liebherr’s suspension systems are put to work in the pit for up to 9,000 hours. Once the field test comes to an end, the component is then disassembled into its smallest parts and each one is analysed to understand what happened to the product during operation. The results are then collated and compared with the needs of the end customer. All of the data gathered by Liebherr engineers during this process helps Liebherr-Component Technologies AG (Liebherr-Components) to perfect its designs before they officially become part of Liebherr equipment around the world. However, integrating a Liebherr component into a Liebherr machine is not the end of the component’s journey.
‘Continuous improvement is a huge priority for Liebherr and so our products are never completely “finished”. When we get feedback that can be used to optimise machine performance, it’s collected, analysed and then implemented into our product improvement processes. This feedback can come from our customers, technicians, engineers or anyone else who works with our components,’ says Romain Botzkowitz, sales engineer, mining, Liebherr-Components Colmar SAS.

Supplier Selection
Picking the right supplier for excavator parts wholesale is very important. The supplier you choose can help your project or cause problems. You need someone you can trust. Here is what you should pay attention to.
Reputation
A supplier’s reputation is important. Good suppliers follow rules like ISO, CE, or EPA. These rules show they care about safety and how things work. When you read reviews online, you learn what other people think. Find suppliers who give warranties and technical support. This means they believe in their products. You can also ask for references or talk to other buyers. If a supplier has a good reputation, you will get better service, faster shipping, and parts you can count on.
Tip: Always check customer reviews before you buy. Reviews can show problems or tell you about great service.
Credentials
You should check a supplier’s credentials before buying. Ask how long they have sold excavator parts wholesale. Suppliers with more experience know how to fill big orders and meet deadlines. Make sure they have the right certificates. These show they use strong materials like hardened alloy steel or heat-treated cast iron. Ask if they can make enough parts for you on time. Good suppliers will show you their certificates and explain how they work. You can also use trusted websites to find suppliers with good backgrounds.
Here is a simple checklist for picking a supplier:
Look for industry certificates.
Check if they can make and deliver enough parts.
Ask about warranties and help after you buy.
Read reviews and ask for references.
Make sure they have experience in excavator parts wholesale.
Picking the right supplier helps you avoid problems and saves money. It also helps your equipment keep working well.
Part Quality
You want excavator parts that last a long time. Good quality means your machine breaks less. You will not spend as much on repairs. Here are things to check before you buy.
Material Standards
Parts need to be strong for hard work. Always ask what materials the supplier uses. Look for hardened steel or heat-treated iron. These materials can handle heavy jobs. If a supplier will not tell you about their materials, look for another one. Good suppliers give you this information. They might even show you a sample.
Tip: Ask for a sample or a material report before a big order. This lets you check the quality yourself.
Certifications
Certifications prove a part is safe and good quality. Look for marks like ISO or CE. These marks mean the part passed safety tests. Some suppliers have EPA certificates too. That means they follow environmental rules. When you see these certifications, you know the part is safe. If a supplier cannot show you these, find another one.
Warranty
A warranty helps you feel safe when you buy. It shows the supplier trusts their parts. Most top suppliers give different warranty times for each product. Here is what you can expect:
Longer warranties often mean better parts. Always ask about the warranty before you buy. If there is no warranty, you should be careful.
Compatibility
Making sure your new parts fit your machine is just as important as picking a good supplier. If you get the wrong part, your excavator might not work right or could even break down. Let’s look at what you need to check before you buy.
Model Fit
Every excavator model is a little different. You need to match the part to your machine’s make, model, and year. Check your owner’s manual or the old part for numbers and details. If you are not sure, ask the supplier for help. Some suppliers have charts or guides to help you pick the right part. A good fit means less trouble and better performance.
Tip: Always double-check part numbers before you order. This small step can save you time and money.
OEM vs. Aftermarket
You have two main choices when you buy parts: OEM or aftermarket. Here’s how they compare:
OEM parts come from the original equipment maker. They match your machine exactly and give you steady performance.
Aftermarket parts come from other companies. Their quality can change from one brand to another.
Some aftermarket parts work better than OEM, but others might wear out faster.
OEM parts usually come with a warranty and good customer support.
Aftermarket warranties are not always the same, so you need to check before you buy.
If you want peace of mind, OEM is a safe bet. If you want to save money, look for trusted aftermarket brands with good reviews.
Lifespan
Excavator parts do not last forever. Most machines run for about 9,800 to 10,000 hours before they need big repairs or new parts. The undercarriage and tracks wear out the fastest. You should keep an eye on these parts and plan for replacements. If you buy high-quality parts, your machine will run longer and need fewer repairs.

Pricing & Terms
When you buy excavator parts, you want the best deal. You also want clear terms. Let’s break down what you should look for.
Quotes
Always ask for a detailed quote before you buy. A good quote shows the price for each part, shipping costs, and any extra fees. This helps you compare suppliers. Some suppliers may try to hide fees, so read every line. If you do not understand something, ask questions. You can even request quotes from two or three suppliers. This way, you see who offers the best value.
Tip: Save all your quotes. You can use them to negotiate a better price.
Discounts
Buying in bulk often means you get a discount. Many suppliers offer lower prices if you order more parts. Some give special deals for first-time buyers or repeat customers. Ask about seasonal sales or promotions. You might find a better deal if you buy at the right time. Here are some common discounts you might see:
Bulk order discount: Lower price for large orders.
Loyalty discount: Savings for returning customers.
Seasonal sale: Special prices during certain months.
You should always ask, “Is this your best price?” Sometimes, just asking gets you a better deal.
Payment Options
Suppliers offer different ways to pay. Some take credit cards, bank transfers, or even PayPal. Others may let you pay in installments for big orders. Check if there are extra fees for certain payment methods. Make sure you understand the payment terms. Do you pay before shipping or after delivery? Clear payment terms help you avoid surprises.
If you have a question about payment, ask before you order. Good suppliers will explain everything.
After-Sales & Support
