Low Temperature Carbon Steel (LTCS) pipe standards|

Low-temperature carbon steels have been developed chiefly for use in low-temperature equipment and especially for welded pressure vessels. They are low- to medium-carbon (0.20 to 0.30%), high-manganese (0.70 to 1.60%), silicon (0.15 to 0.60%) steels, which have a fine-grain structure with uniform carbide dispersion.

Low temperature carbon steel pipes are covered by ASTM A333, the grade nominal wall seamless and welded carbon steel pipes, which can be harnessed at low temperature applications and other services that equire notch toughness. They should be of seamless quality ASTM A333 Grade 1 low temperature pipes devoid of see pages and with a uniform body and should be minimally affected due to corrosion and mechanical stress. Some product sizes may not be available under this specification because heavier wall thicknesses have an adverse affect on low-temperature impact properties.

As we are the leaders of oil and gas engineering services in UAE, Universal Engineering Services provide plausible solutions on design services over a decade.

Additionally Carbon Steel pipe ASTM A333 grade 3 increase the overall work potential of a piping system, with their polished bodies countering any possible corossion attack.

Standard Specifications for LTCS Pipes and Tubes

Application of LTCS

  • They can be found in heat exchangers, chemical containers, pipelines and throughout the food industry.

  • It can be used as a fabricated material where high temperature petroleum gases or steam production gases are stored such as pressure vessel

Benefits of LTCS

  • Low carbon content eliminates carbon precipitation in the welding process

  • Can be used in severe corrosive environments

  • Weld annealing only required in high stress applications

Can LTCS be used for temperatures below -45 degrees C? - Piping World

Low temperature carbon steel may be used below -45°C provided figures 323.2.A and 323.2.B including their notes in paragraph 323.2.2 of ASME B31.3 are complied with. If the limitations as defined in the code cannot be met, consider the use of austenitic stainless steels or nickel alloy materials.
